“Dr. X confirmed no cancer in Bob's tongue or lymph nodes, but he is a little concerned about the cysts in his neck. He is going to go over the PET scan with another radiologist and he wants Bob to go back to ENT surgeon. I am going to have to stand up to them I guess if they try to push surgery. I think they should at least wait a few months and repeat PET scan again before doing anything invasive. Dr. X will call me today.”
V (Bob’s wife)
I received this email early Thursday morning May 13 with relief and joy. No that is and understatement. I was ecstatic!!
Bob first visited me November 16, 2009. He had completed radiation treatments for tongue cancer that had spread to the lymph glands in his neck. His doctors had told him that he had already received the maximum radiation permitted for life. He could have no more. Chemotherapy was not an appropriate therapy. The only chance he had to live was to have his tongue and lymph glands removed on both sides of his neck. He would never be able to speak or eat by mouth. This prognosis was not acceptable!
Six and a half months and twenty seven hypnosis sessions later, Bob is free of cancer. He has eaten some solid food and his speech improves every week. Bob is very enthusiastic about the results of our work together and has promised a letter to the physicians at SHANDS and Mayo Clinic who had given him no chance of survival without surgery. This letter will update them on his journey back to health.
For those any who are interested in more here is my summary of the how’s and what’s and schedule Bob and I made together.
When Bob arrived at my office on November 16 for his first session, as he began to speak, his mouth rapidly filled with so much mucus that he could only speak a few syllables and he would have to spit into a cup. He could not put his head back in the recliner without choking. His tongue and throat had been radiated so much that his tongue was rigid and fibrous. His throat was burned severely by the radiation Speech was difficult and all food was taken in via a feeding tube that went directly into his digestive system bypassing the throat. On both sides of his neck he had tumors slightly smaller than golf balls.
Bob also came to me with a strong imbedded fear of doctors. Even though he had overcome that fear once before when he married a doctor, a trip to the doctor for any type of evaluation or treatment was real turmoil for Bob. (This explains in part why he waited until his cancer was so serious before he sought treatment.) We discovered that as a six year old he had been told by his mother that he had bumps on his neck and boys with bumps on their neck developed a horrible disease and died. At age nine a doctor identified the symptoms of an incurable disease in Bob. This time both the doctor and his mother told him that he would surely die and soon. On the last day of school before summer vacation he was forced to stand up in front of the class and announce to his classmates that he would be dead before school began in September and it was time to say goodbye. During the summer Bob’s mother took him to neighbors to say goodbye as well. Bob was also required to sit and visit with anyone in the final stages of life during this summer.
Bob also came to me with strong personal discipline and a will to live a life of quality. Perhaps in its own way the diagnoses that failed to be true at age 6 and again at age 9, while those diagnoses caused so much emotional pain and was a contributing factor in Bob’s failure to get medical advice or treatment for the scratchiness and swelling of his tongue or even the biting of his tongue earlier than he did was probably influenced by his tremendous fear of doctors. On the other hand it could be that those erroneous diagnoses may have been the germ of the thought that if the doctor was so wrong many years ago the doctors he had seen now be just as wrong as well.
Bob had been a very successful businessman. He had been Senior Vice President of Sales and New Products in two major companies. Many of us have used at least one of the new products developed under his leadership. He is analytical and creative.
The cancer and loss of his ability to speak clearly and eat had cost him some pride and some self confidence.
Our early work together focused on rebuilding his sense of self worth and focus on having more to contribute to the world. Each session was laced with visions of Bob seeing himself speaking and eating and totally free of cancer.
Early on we addressed his fear of doctors with regression to cause and neutralization.
As a vehicle to demonstrate the power of his mind I guided Bob in extreme focus and concentration. I guided him to know and experience raising his body temperature by one degree then lower it to normal and then lower it again one additional degree below normal. All results were measured with a forehead thermometer. Bob quickly became an expert and he saw his mind as more powerful than his cancer and more powerful than the damage to his body by the radiation.
In the first month I guided Bob into relaxation with many different inductions including Elman modified, a nice induction I learned from Jim Duncan called “Flow to your Goal” and a yoga related induction and deepening called Yoga Nidra. Within a few weeks Bob was capable of putting himself into trance of nearly any level he choose almost immediately.
Bob took to self-hypnosis like a drowning man take to a life preserver. He did all his assigned homework and did it more often and longer than I assigned. He has nearly memorized all my hypnosis CD’s that I assigned for his use.
Much of our work visualized separating cancer cells from the healthy cells with a membrane that kept the cancer cells from spreading to other parts of the body and then deprived the cancer cells of nourishment so they would stop reproducing and be replaced by healthy cells.
We also used many forms of “internal physician” and “neuroplasticity” to encourage the healing of his tongue, throat, epiglottis and lymphatic system.
I used “Bob’s Little Trucks” and other parables and visualizations to open the lymph system to remove injured tissue and cells without spreading any cancerous or pre-cancer cells.
Sometime in early December Bob was offered the opportunity to see if he was qualified to go into an experimental program at the Mayo Clinic here in Jacksonville. He passed the initial screening for the program; however, when he was given the base line PET scans, the doctors found that his tumors were shrinking and he was therefore not eligible for the program.
I shared stories of other clients who felt that they had benefited from complimentary therapies with Bob. He selected alternative therapies that fit his vision for restoring his own health. Under the supervision of a MD, he would regularly get in a hyperbaric chamber, receive infusions of glutathione and other vitamins and used OCR as an oral chelator.
More than once I suggested to Bob that he had learned enough to continue on his healing path without regular visits to me. Bob would not accept these suggestions and insisted that I continue to see him weekly to keep up his morale and discipline.
By January neither Bob nor his wife could feel any tumors in his throat.
In mid January Bob began working with a speech therapist to help him learn to swallow and help him regain his ability to speak.
In January 2010, I was asked by “Shorelines” a twice a week publication of the “Jacksonville Times Union” to give an interview prior to giving a workshop on Past Life Regression with another hypnotist. Bob enthusiastically volunteered to be interviewed. He told me that he wanted everyone to know about the benefits he received from hypnosis. Here is a link to that article.
I met with Bob 5 times in the first two weeks. Thereafter we met twice a week for four weeks and finally once a week through May 14, 2010 when Bob’s Mayo doctor declared him cancer free. Bob is continuing to meet with me every other week as his overall health and wellness continues to improve. We will focus on continuing to improve his speech and ability to eat. Bob is also interested in using hypnosis to enhance his experiences as he moves through life.
Bob states that his life has been saved by hypnosis and he has changed and grown in many physical, mental and spiritual ways. His wife V has shared that he is a more open loving and present person.
I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Bob. He has been an outstanding client and has achieved remarkable results.
